ADVOCATING FOR

SUPPORT CHAPTER LEADERS

  • Implement a statewide committee for chapter leaders to meet monthly, sharing ideas and collaborating on initiatives

  • Host trainings about leading successful chapters, including how to engage members during the COVID-19 pandemic, lead events, gain new members, organize voter registration drives, get involved with legislative advocacy, and reach out to elected officials

  • Connect nearby chapter leaders with each other through regional committees, creating a space for inter-chapter partnerships

  • Formulate reliable resources through Google Drive folders specifically for local chapters

COMMIT TO PROGRESS

  • Keep elected CAHSD officers accountable and transparent with a monthly collaboration meeting open to all general members

  • Ensure members choose the organization’s advocacy priorities, such as police reform and healthcare for all, through open voting

  • Create an equity task force to facilitate inclusive practices, especially when appointing state officers

  • Offer implicit bias trainings to all leaders

INCREASE MEMBERSHIP INVOLVEMENT

  • Empower members’ voices in CAHSD’s decision-making by bridging the gap between the state board and general membership

  • Form issue-based advocacy committees to take action and lobby in policy areas voted on by membership, such as a climate justice committee and police reform committee

  • Keep members informed with a weekly region-based newsletter containing new opportunities, updates from the state board, and action items

  • Provide financial support for local chapter projects

  • Compile an accessible directory of advocacy projects, work opportunities, and ready-to-use resources for lobbying elected officials

  • Promote membership-led initiatives

EXPAND ORGANIZATIONAL REACH

  • Emphasize expansion efforts in typically under-supported areas, such as Republican strongholds

  • Continue pushing for CAHSD chapter representation on county central committees

  • Build relationships between local chapters and respective county Democratic parties

  • Foster partnerships with other statewide advocacy organizations

  • Plan statewide in-person convention open to all members when safe to do so
